The Spirit of America program introduces young people to several different types and sizes of watercraft and water based activities, all of which nurture responsible behavior. Spirit of America provides an ideal environment for the students to learn, react, and develop lifelong learning skills and ambitions.

Based on a hands-on program, Spirit of America EMPOWERS our youth, in a non-traditional classroom setting, to dare to dream, while meeting the underlying goals of the curriculum for developing self esteem, teamwork, safe seamanship, boating and water safety practices, and responsible behavior in our young adults.

Safety is priority ONE for the Spirit of America and our facilitating organizations. We are dedicated to the promotion of SAFE participation in all water and boating related recreational activities. Just as we adapted to and recognized the importance of the use of seatbelts and bike helmets from the time we were young, we believe that the use of life jackets also starts with our young people. By mandating that all participants, students AND instructors, wear life jackets, we are seeing a new trend in our communities towards increased wear of life jackets, a direct goal of the National Recreational Boating Safety Strategic Plan.

We are proud that our GRADUATES have made this issue top priority in their families and their communities.

Spirit of America recognizes, applauds and is indebted to the United States Coast Guard Office of Auxiliary and Boating Safety for their continued support of the Spirit of America National Youth, Family and Community Boating Education Programs. It is due in part to the support from grants provided by the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund, administered by the U.S. Coast Guard, that a portion of our programs have been established and that all programs continue to thrive.
